A.S.H.E.S. The Chosen
I hope you’re sitting down, because A.S.H.E.S. (All Songs Heard Echo Solidarity) The Chosen have made a damn heavy album. Every track is deep and meaningful with a powerful message. A.S.H.E.S. The Chosen is an outspoken raptivist and doesn’t take things lightly on The First Call. Amongst all the party-anthems and bangers in the current hip-hop scene it is refreshing to see an artist using the medium of hip-hop to share a very real message. Whether being somber, inspiring, or just thoughtful, the central theme of this album is simply “get woke”. The First Call covers various political/social topics especially those surrounding the black community such as Ferguson, Black Lives Matter, civil rights and equality, and names like Sandra Bland (in #sayhername) and Malijha (in Baby Malijha). Muscially the flow is great and the beats work very well with the voice. The sound can also be very diverse, going from hard raps (such as in Not 2 Blame), to a very soulful sound (such as in Touch the Sky). Overall I was very impressed with this album, and I recommend to anyone to just sit down and give The First Call an entire listen through.
